Safety
Staying safe on Kindly Curious
Our members join to help one another. The following measures and advice help to keep everyone safe.
What we do
- Your email address and phone number are never shown.
- All sessions take place online by video call. We do not arrange in-person meetings.
- There is no chat or messaging, so there is no need to exchange contact details.
- Every profile and conversation has a "Report a concern" link, and our team reviews every report.
- You can block any member. They will not be able to see your profile or contact you.
- Every guide has a welcome video call with our team before their profile is visible to learners.
- Guides may support only a small number of learners at a time, and hellos close after one week without a reply.
On the video call
- Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams may display your name or email address. Please ensure that only your first name is displayed.
- Guides are advised to use a separate free account for Kindly Curious.
What our checks mean
Every guide you can find on Kindly Curious shows ✓ Met by our team. That means:
- Welcome video call: a member of our team has spoken with them.
- Photo ID checked: we viewed their photo ID during the call and confirmed that it matched the person.
Some guides also show:
- Reference received: someone who knows them, contacted through official details, has provided a reference.
- DBS certificate seen: we viewed a DBS certificate during a video call. We do not keep a copy, and a basic DBS check only shows unspent criminal convictions on the date it was issued.
"Volunteering experience" on a profile is in the guide's own words. We may ask about it, but we cannot verify everything.
Checks help, but they cannot guarantee how anyone will behave. Please continue to follow the advice below and tell us if you have any concerns.
